HUMAN ACTIVITIES



There are many activities that can be found on this busy street filled with people. Among them are stalls offering to design an interesting pattern on any desired part of ones body with henna. Henna art is a a common sight during Indian celebrations



Traditional medication can also be found in Little India. Such as this one, Ayurvedic treatments are common within the Indian culture using organic resources such as herbs and oils. 








These are miniature statues of Gods that are sold around Little India. A variety of statues are displayed for purchase, not only Hindu Gods. In the picture, the miniature statues are of Hindu and Buddhist Gods. These two religions are common in going hand in hand together






Little India is famous for selling traditional Indian outfits. There are so many shops that give customers such an array of choices. Examples of traditional costumes are dothi, saree, punjabi suits and many more.










Kolam's can usually be seen during Deepavali and they are made of colored rice grains. Here on the roads of Little India, the kolam's are painted onto the roads. Nonetheless, they have similar patterns.

FOOD

During the eve of Deepavali, store owners focus on selling traditional sweets as it is a delicacy in the Indian culture. Sweets such as ladoo, palgova and etc. are mouth watering and one will not be enough.

Cookies in beautiful packaging can also be found on the streets of Little India. They are usually stores on their own. These cookies can range from a wide variety.


A typical Indian meal. Roti Canai and Dhal curry. Food stores located around Little India have a variety of meals to choose from. They can range from vegetarian to non-vegetarian meals

.
Tidbits such as muruku are a favourite, not only among indians but others too. It is of easy reach around Little India and will vary according to different brands.


There is such a variety of indian food at Little India that your taste buds will never get bored.



PEOPLE

There are people of all ages in Little India shopping at the many markets there. Women are mostly seen grocery shopping because it is a tradition that the women are to go out and get the items needed to be cooked.


Traditional clothing stores are abundant in Little India and are one of the reasons why the place is famous. Clothes like dhotis, punjabi suits, saree's and etc. can be found almost at every corner of Little India.



The people roaming the streets of Little India can be seen wearing traditional clothes. Although, mostly the women can be seen wearing punjabi suits and some in saree's. The men are usually seen wearing shirts and pants.

Temples and small shrines can be found everywhere around Little India. In Hinduism, there are many different dainties and gods so you will find different statues of dainties and gods around the street.


It is a favourite for indians to play with fire crackers during Deepavali. Little India will have a variety of choices of fireworks during this period. The fun varies from sparklers all the way to the colourful flower fireworks.



Bangles are every Indian women favourite accessory. It can be worn with traditional and modern indian trends. They come in all colours and have different pattern and textures on them as well.


A lot of people but these beautiful flower garlands as decoration or accessories. It can be used as a hair accessory, as an offering to dainties and gods, to decorate your house and is even used during weddings.


This is one of the few forms of lodging in Little India.


Traffic at Little India is always heavy because of its busy atmosphere that offers so much.
